From the start of the design process, it was intended that the Vivid Audio range should be used as much for home theatre applications as for stereo replay. With that in mind, the C1 centre channel speaker was developed to complete the range.

The centre channel is arguably the most important speaker in a home theatre system as it carries much of the dialogue. The centre also needs to be as perfectly matched to the other front speakers as possible so that the same character of sound can be heard. To accomplish this, the C1 centre speaker uses the same drive unit array and many features of the cabinet technology found in the K1 and B1. To achieve the optimum performance when used horizontally, the bass drivers sit either side of the high and mid frequency drive units. Driven by an identical signal, this arrangement allows for the perfect horizontal polar pattern at all frequencies; the perfect performance for a centre speaker.

Unlike most of the Vivid Audio range, the C1 comes without a stand to give the user a greater choice of positioning (on the floor in front of the screen, on a small equipment stand etc.). However, an optional stand is available (C1s) made of the same material as the cabinet allowing for exceptionally stable footing while holding the C1 at a gentle angle to suit most floorstanding situations. The five custom machined spikes add extra stability where necessary.
