The flag-ship range from April Music, Eximus epitomises the company’s fanatical approach to design and attention to detail. No stone has been left unturned in the pursuit of audio excellence and with a component spec list that reads like a who’s who of the very best audiophile components available, the CD5 is sure to bring musical joy for years to come.
The transport is one of the very best on the market and is the top-loading CD-Pro2LF module from Philips. Once the signal is converted to analogue via the 24 bit / 96kHz Burr Brown DAC’s (there are four of them within the CD5), the signal is fed into a discrete analogue circuit which, due to its fully balanced configuration, illuminates any effects from surrounding electrical interference. All of this is powered by separate internal power supplies (one for the digital and one for the analogue circuits).
Unusual for a product of this type is the facility to use the internal DAC’s for other inputs, therefore utilising the full quality of the upsampling technology. As well as the conventional coaxial and optical inputs, a USB input is also supplied to make the most of music streamed from a PC/MAC.
As you would expect for a player of this quality, all of the components are mounted on gold-plated printed pattern circuit boards and housed within a particularly solid chassis for the very best resistance to vibration.
The result is a future-proof CD player that allows its superb DAC technology to be used with future sources for years to come.
